Ever in My Heart

An American woman marries a German man. Their life goes quietly until the war comes. When the First World War begins, the way people around them look at them changes. Where the man comes from suddenly becomes the thing that decides everything. The woman starts to be met with suspicion in her own country. The film shows how wartime nationalism gets into ordinary life. The account blames neither of them; what it describes is the surroundings. The sixty eight minutes are kept short and tight. Barbara Stanwyck and Otto Kruger take the leads, with Ralph Bellamy also in the cast. Archie Mayo’s American film was completed in 1933.
