Stubborn

A dam is coming, and the land of two villages is to be expropriated. The information is supposed to stay confidential and it leaks; two holding companies head for the villages to buy the farmers' land cheap and sell it to the state dear. In one of the villages is Bayram, a man known for being impossible to move. He is in love with the landowner's daughter and she with him, but after being refused every month he finally announces that he will never ask again and that the father will come asking him instead. Directed by Kartal Tibet with Kemal Sunal in the lead, it belongs to the run of comedies made at the end of the eighties. It is built on land speculation, expropriation and the farmer getting fleeced, and what you laugh at is uncomfortably familiar. Sunal's stubborn man outlived the story around him.
