Last Night of Love

In 1916, shortly before Romania enters the war, Lieutenant Tudor Gheorghiu is posted to a border patrol unit on the frontier with Austria Hungary. Hearing nothing from his wife, he persuades his commanding officer to grant him a short leave. He is deeply jealous of Lena, whom he married two years earlier, and accuses her of being unfaithful. When his grandfather dies most of the fortune passes to Tudor, and Andrei Nicolau, the lawyer executing the will, wants Lena for himself. The country is plunged into the war and Tudor is posted to the very regiment where the lawyer serves as a major. The film holds jealousy and war inside the same frame and gives both as a trial. Vladimir Gaitan and Joanna Pacula appear in Sergiu Nicolaescu’s hundred minute Romanian film, completed in 1980.
