Şendul Şaban

Şaban and his friend Ali work at the same factory. The day they ask for a raise, both are put out of the door. They look for work for months and find none. Then Şaban's wife Necla says it: women find work more easily. Husband and wife make a bet on it. The next day Necla starts as a secretary. The roles at home swap round; Necla earns and Şaban runs the house. But as Necla's hours get longer neither of them is happy about it, and Şaban starts wondering what goes on at his wife's office. Kartal Tibet directs the Turkish comedy; ninety-four minutes, with Kemal Sunal as Şaban and Nevra Serezli as Necla, and Halit Akçatepe and Ayşen Gruda in the cast. Sunal and Tibet worked together one film after another through the eighties; the Şaban character turned the unemployment and daily helplessness of the period into comedy.
