What Three Little Words Is About
When an injury makes it impossible for Bert Kalmar to go on singing and dancing on stage, he starts earning his living as a lyricist. The first song he writes with Harry Ruby, a composer he meets by chance, is a hit, and the two of them enter a long partnership. Ruby gets Kalmar married to Jessie Brown, his former stage partner, while Kalmar and Jessie keep Ruby from marrying the wrong women. But when a backer withdraws from a play because of Ruby, the partnership ends. In Richard Thorpe’s hundred and two minute MGM musical, Fred Astaire plays Kalmar, Red Skelton plays Ruby and Vera-Ellen plays Jessie; it was completed in 1950 and is based on the story of two real songwriters.
