What El analfabeto Is About
Inocencio cannot read. One day a letter arrives telling him he has inherited two million pesos from his uncle, but he does not know that, because he cannot read it. He goes to the pharmacy for help, and when he sees that a small girl can read, he changes his mind: he will keep the letter, go to school, and read it himself. Cantinflas plays him; Miguel M. Delgado directed. The film's point is plain, that not being able to read leaves a person defenceless, and it stands alongside the literacy campaigns run in Mexico in those years.
