What El bolero de Raquel Is About
A kind-hearted shoeshiner unexpectedly takes on responsibility for an orphaned boy and spends all his time, money and energy on him. Every obstacle that comes between them turns into a comic set piece. The word bolero in the title means shoeshiner in Mexico as well as naming the musical form, so it carries both meanings at once. Cantinflas was the source of this kind of part, the man who talks his way out of everything, and he was so well known that Spanish has a verb derived from his name meaning to talk at length and say nothing.
