Kuroko's Basketball the Movie: Last Game

A street basketball team from America called Jabberwock comes to Japan, crushes a Japanese side in an exhibition and then openly insults Japanese basketball. To answer it, the players known as the Generation of Miracles, the stars who were rivals in the interhigh tournament, are gathered into a single team. Kuroko and Kagami are on it. Shunsuke Tada directs. The source is Tadatoshi Fujimaki's manga; the film came after the television adaptation had finished and adapts the Extra Game chapter. The idea of the series is Kuroko's invisibility. The character is slight and draws no attention, and for exactly that reason is not noticed on court; his playmaking is built on it. Here the narrative turns into a team story. That the players who fought each other throughout the series are on the same side is what the story has been working towards, and the match exists for it. The game is nearly the whole film. It runs about ninety minutes and most of that is one match. The animation is above the series, particularly in the movement and in drawing crowds. Who it is for: viewers of Kuroko no Basket and anyone who likes sports anime. Who it is not for: there are too many players for a newcomer, the techniques go unexplained, and there is no story outside the match.
