Tailored gentleman

He models dinner jackets for a smart shop. The job is to walk the street wearing one with an advertising board on his back. But the dinner jacket gets him into places he could never otherwise enter: parties, clubs, the tables of the rich. Meanwhile he manages an amateur boxer, helps out at the local church and orphanage, and is in love with a nurse. One day a wealthy man sees him and takes him for a millionaire. The misunderstanding grows. In the end a murder charge lands on him as well. Miguel M. Delgado directs the Mexican comedy; a hundred minutes, with Cantinflas in the lead. For nearly forty years Cantinflas played the same man: broke, well-meaning, and able to defeat anyone by talking. Nothing else in Mexico did the business these films did.
