What The Sentimental Swordsman Is About
Li Hsun-huan is a swordsman known for the small daggers he keeps inside his fan; he does whatever justice requires, but he drinks, and that is what brings him down. The film builds justice not as a victory but as a weight that eats the man. Chor Yuen wrote and directed it, from the first book of Gu Long’s five-novel series Little Li’s Flying Dagger, published in 1968. Shaw Brothers produced and Ti Lung leads, with Ching Li, Derek Yee and Elliot Ngok in the cast. It opened on 14 October 1977 and became one of the studio’s biggest commercial successes.
