What Killer Clans Is About
Two great clans are cutting each other apart for control of the territory. What runs between them is not open war but a web of assassination, spying, bought loyalty and no certainty about who is working for whom. A swordsman for hire lands in the middle of it, and once he falls for the daughter of the rival clan's leader, he starts questioning which side he is on. Chor Yuen adapted a Gu Long novel; this was his first Gu Long film for the Shaw Brothers and it set the template every adaptation after it followed. He works wuxia like a gangster story: hidden tunnels, betrayals, decisions taken in back rooms. Who is deceiving whom matters far more here than any duel.
