What Girls und Panzer das Finale: Part 1 Is About
In this world driving a tank is a girls' school sport, and the team at Oarai Girls High School is one of the best in the country. Momo has given a lot of time to tanks and not much to studying, and has failed her university entrance exam. Her friends put together a plan to save her: Miho steps down as commander and Momo takes over. If the team wins the Continuous Cup, Momo will get to sit the exam again. This is the first instalment of the finale series of Girls & Panzer. The forty seven minute episode, directed by Tsutomu Mizushima, was shown in cinemas. The tank sequences are again the strongest thing about the series: weight, mud and manoeuvre are genuinely felt. The telling does not take war seriously, but it does take sport seriously. It is not an entry point for a new viewer; the episode is built for people who have followed the story from the start.
